When We See Us

Now on view — Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm, through Aug 2026

When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting

Curated by Koyo Kouoh & Tandazani Dhlakama, this landmark survey traces a century of Black figurative painting. The exhibition opened at Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town, before touring to Kunstmuseum Basel, Bozar in Brussels, and now Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm, where it remains on view through August 2026.

Freudian Tones

2019 — London

Freudian Tones

A solo exhibition at Old Brompton Gallery, Kensington, London — a body of work turning inward, probing the subconscious currents beneath the figure.

Besançon vu par Nina et Adejumo

2009 — Besançon, France

Besançon vu par Nina et Adejumo

A body of watercolour works made during his time in Besançon, shown at the Centre de Linguistique Appliquée, Université de Franche-Comté — a departure into watercolour that captured the city through an outsider's eye.

Homage to Efua

2015 — Accra, Ghana

Homage to Efua

Shown at the Nubuke Foundation, East Legon, Accra — a tribute to Efua Dorkenoo, the Ghanaian-British campaigner who led the global movement against female genital mutilation, engaging directly with the themes of her life's work.

Ideas and Ideals

2011 — Port Harcourt

Ideas and Ideals

His tenth solo exhibition, staged deliberately in Port Harcourt rather than Lagos — the city where he spent his own childhood. Thirty paintings and a dozen drawings, rendered in warm, impressionistic colour, set out to counter the region's media reduction to oil conflict and unrest, offering instead the Niger Delta he knew firsthand: ordinary, peaceful, alive.
